Hey everyone. Just got paid today and have been looking to get something a bit more powerful for a while now. Unfortunately, due to my living arrangement at the moment, I can't have a desktop in the lounge so I plan on getting a laptop. I oringinally didn't want to spend over £600 but, after doing research it just wasn't possible to get what I wanted at that price and it has got to £750.

Could you guys take a look at what I've got here? See if there are any issues or suggestions you might have :D. Price is an issue but if a couple of extra quid will make a big difference, please let me know.

Also, I am wondering about the possibility of getting an okay laptop in conjunction with a decent rig. My budget wouldn't change though so, might not be realistic if I wanted something good. Oh and I guess importantly, I'm looking for it to be a good gaming laptop. I haven't been a pc gamer for a long time so have no set games, I just want the freedom to do as much as possible in my budget.

Is it just for gaming?

Pretty much yes. But I'm thinking I might just go desktop. It will be really impractical and annoying right now but, will be better in the long run. I'm gunna have to start from scratch. Cheers though bud. Will post it when I have something to work from. I don't know anything about what I am doing. Will look at others posts etc.

Okay so I have based this off another post on this forum which has a similar price/goal to myself. I do have a couple of questions though... I love quality music but, I know very little about the specs behind it all. I have some high end headphones and already have a headphone amp etc. The soundcard that comes standard sounds pretty decent already, is it worth me changing it for something else?

What differences do the blue ray disc readers make? Not sure if I will get one or not but I might. Would getting the lower end one be a mistake?

Finally, I'm guessing shoving the free modem in for the sake of it is a mistake? Guessing it draws more power?

Really appreciate the help :).

The onboard sound is pretty good these days but if you have high end headphones or speakers I would recommend the Asus Xonar DS (£39),you could always try the onboard first then upgrade later if not happy with it.
Blu-Ray drives will play blu-ray disks,CD's and DVD disks, the 15x BLU-RAY WRITER DRIVE, 16x DVD ±R/±RW will also write to Blu-Ray,DVD and CD Disks. What to watch for when buying Blu-Ray drives is "ROM",which means "Read-only Memory" like in the 4x BLU-RAY "ROM" DRIVE, 16x DVD "ROM" which won't write to any Disks, and the 10x BLU-RAY "ROM" DRIVE, 16x DVD ±R/±RW which will write to DVD and CD but not Blu- Ray Disks.
You won't really need the modem unless planning on using a FAX machine.
By my reckoning the spec you posted comes to about £850,
I would suggest something like this.

What is your budget for the desktop?
