AMD are about to go live (1PM UK time) on YouTube to reveal their new GPU's. Made even more interesting after Nvidia have seemingly dropped the ball with their latest and greatest GPU's.

Damn, YouTube livestreams are blocked on the work domain,

I guess because they can’t effectively filter live feeds should there be any heinous content.

So missed the stream.

Will wait for 3rd party reviews but I’m really pleased I held out and am looking forward to this for the 9070xt model

I posted a little while back about considering a GPU upgrade from my RTX3080 with potentially only the 5070 being a possibility on Nvidia's side given my 850w PSU. These might be worth a look given the power needs seem far lower than what my 3080 pulls.

Wow, I've just been looking more into this.

Has anyone seen the reference size specs of the RX9070XT???? It's positively tiny!!!! It's like being back to the GTX1000 series dimensions!

The card's dimensions are 267 mm x 111 mm x 50 mm, and it features a dual-slot cooling solution. I've been umming and aahing about upgrading my case to one of the O11D XL chassis as my current one has got a limit of 300mm on the GPU length which was a bit of an issue until this came along, I realise most aftermarket models will likely be a lot longer, but hopefully there are some more standard models that fit these dimensions or at least under 300mm.

If this holds up in 3rd party benches and trades blows with the 5070ti, I'm set on AMD this gen. Power wise, connector wise and *hopefully* performance wise (including ray tracing and upscaling IF AMD's claims are found to be true), then this is an absolute winner. And I believe them when they say these are the most stable drivers ever, since the RX5000 series driver fiasco and Lisa Su putting in a major effort to then enlist serious talent into the driver development, plus how much it's improved since the 5000 series, I don't question that they've seriously bridged the gap software wise.

I believe @Steveyg has had AMD gpu's for a while and not had any issues with drivers.

Im also keen to see if they’ve made any headroom in VR which so far I haven't seen any claims on. If they've improved foveated rendering, then that ticks every box requirement I have. This should be plenty powerful enough as it is even with poor VR translation for the kinds of games I want to play.

And I know AMD aren't releasing a reference version, but this blackout design that's been on all the marketing documents looks SICK, I really hope this is actually an available model, would look really great contrasting with my white motherboard

But as with all things, I'm getting sucked into the hype, and need to remind myself until 3rd party reviews are out, everything is basically fantasy. But I have really high hopes of AMD with this release, I really hope their attitude in the CPU space has finally broken into the GPU division.

I think there's an opportunity here for AND. Just in terms of stock availability, they could really expand market share. If they could regularly release a 'good, not great' card at a decent price and with decent stock levels they'd become the go to option for a lot of gamers. Keep it on the small side and it wins all the micro builds too.

Completely agree.

I think so long as the performance is remotely within their claims (AMD GPU division does NOT have a good track history here), I think these will be very popular.

Even if stock levels are good, I still see these selling out fairly fast just because there are zero Nvidia options currently, and the 5070 more and more is looking like a high end 1080p card rather than a mid tier 1440p card as it should be. That’s aside from the price, no doubt it will be expensive.

This is definitely AMDs Zen 2 moment, they could really strike a warning blow if they don’t mess this up

So far I’ve found two 9070XT models that are using the 12VHPWR connector:

Sapphire Nitro+
AsRock Taichi

BUT, I wonder given how much lower the power is on this model over even a 4080 if that would mitigate the melting concerns.

I’d still rather 2x8 but that Sapphire Nitro card does look insanely good

So far no dual fan coolers, only triple

I'm not sure the 12VHPWR is the biggest issue if GPU manufacturers insist on reducing the number of power stages whilst upping the power demands.

If they put multiple power states, with multiple cut-off circuits, then the worst case would be failure to boot - not 3-Mile Island!

So until I see what components AMD are putting on their cards, I'll reserve judgement.

Obviously take with a pinch of salt, it’s only a couple of days from embargo being lifted.

But this has just been posted by a reputable Aussie bencher on the 9070xt vs 7900xt at 4k and on relevant hungry modern titles that generally cause pain

NB. This card is overclocked to 3150MHz

There are some interesting articles appearing:

The Register are a pretty renowned outfit, they don't say things lightly

And XFX have announced a 2 fan RX 9070 XT at 290 x 123 x 65, YAY!!! Only in China so far, but I have hope.

Reviews are hitting for the 9070XT

TLDR:

Basically within 6% of the 5070ti both + and -
In heavily Ray Traced games ie Path Traced like Black Myth Wukong, Nvidia still wins, but in standard Ray Traced, AMD definitely the better value
