I found myself wondering about the social media posts concerning the RTX 500 series and that fabled unicorn the RTX5090.
It took me back the infamous 3080 shortage of 2020 when waiting longer than 100 days for your build wasn't unusual, one of the glimmering lights in the darkness back then was "Agent Cooper" who would supply those of us who had reached anniversary milestones with a cake.
Being a member of the exclusive "AgentCooper Cake Club" was a badge of honour and although I never hope to see those days again I will admit that the humour of the RTX 3080 thread has never been surpassed.

That was crazy times, @AgentCooper has a knack of lightening the mood.

He's the only person in the last 15 years whose still doing successful RickRolls and for that alone I will always love him!

Those were funny times. It was frustrating as hell at times too, but the vast majority of us waiting in that thread were pretty patient and good natured about it all.

I ended up getting my 3080 build just before Christmas only to find my 3080 was dying and needed to be replaced almost immediately. PCS sent out a replacement 3080 which I installed myself only to find it was a dead card - just my luck! I RMA'd my whole system after that and they tested and installed the third 3080 which is still going strong. Really couldn't fault PCS for the patience they showed me during what was an incredibly busy time!

Agree with every word. I love RickRolls but they're so hard to pull off these days. I shall always tip my hat to him for still being able to pull them off!

Gor blimey. I’d almost forgotten about the bad old cake days! I had to do something to stop you all climbing the walls, gentle humour and pictures of confectionery were all I had in my locker. I’m surprised it worked at placating so many for so long.

There’s surely no way we’ll end up back in that sorry state of affairs, build times may creep up from time to time but that particular year was the perfect storm, wasn’t it? Pandemic creating supply and demand price hikes, crypto-berks hoarding all the good stuff so that they could try and mine some bitcoin, Donald Trump managed to pat his head and rub his tummy at the same time… it all just unfolded.

I’m going to go a bit more hardline should things ever get anywhere near that again. I’ll offer merely two options…

Thank you for the praise! I didn’t know it was such a fine art to get away with the RickRoll these days.

When I eventually cark it I’ll make sure someone in the famalam sends you lads a lovely blue hyperlink to my funeral being live-streamed… go on… click it…
