Advice on new laptop?

I have had many laptops in the past, "mainline" brands and I had a very unpleasant experience with this large PC Manufacturer (which will remain nameless). From the research I have done, pcspecialist seems to do a good job and has pride in their work so I am leaning at giving the "hungry" guys a chance.

The PC I want however, could have a problem. A part of my research has pointed that the new i7 CPU has cooling issues, and I want to know of them and how you overcame them.

I am seriously considering an i5 because of it.

This will be mainly a business PC - my job entails network auditing and application profiling so the PC I am looking at is the Vortex (based on the Clevo W880CU) with a GTX285M GPU.

Thoughts?

We are yet to have any significant issues with the mobile I7 laptops, although it is early days yet. I would agree with your thoughts around the I5, from a heat and battery usage point of view its a good choice. That chassis (if im thinking of the right one) is very big, a desktop replacement model. So consider that if your planning on using on site a lot!

Hiya,
The W880CU Chassis you mention has only just been released and not yet available in uk distribution. It is a tweaked version of the W870CU which was designed for the GTX 285M GPU. This new chassi is the first to use the new GTX 480M Fermi GPU. There are a couple of reviews online, and it appears that it gives a 30% performace increase over the current reigning champ (HD 5870 Mobility). In these Clevo chassis heat hasnt been a problem with the I7 cpu's. The size of them allows good ventilation. As soon as the W880CU is avaiable we will be adding to the Vortex range, so keep checking back.
