Hi all

I’m looking to upgrade my set up as it’s getting to the 5 year mark now please can you all give feedback on this spec I have built. The case isn't the one I wanted as the C700M now isn’t showing on the case selection (guessing its out of stock) not in a huge rush to order so I think I’m going to wait for more cases to come in stock or at least wait for the C700M to come back.

Spec below:

Case

Windows 10 Home 64 Bit - inc. Single Licence [KUK-00001]

questions I have:

-can this spec run dual screen set up? I have a Razer raptor 27 on the way for main screen, second screen will mainly be for read only (background music, YouTube etc)
-although I’m using a WiFi card as router is downstairs it will still have an Ethernet port right?
-are extra fans required?

any feedback is appreciated

thanks in advance
SP

Hi there,

Clearly quite the budget in play here. Can I ask what the system is for as it seems a bit out there for just a gaming system? What resolution is the monitor? Is it the 1440p 144hz version? If so, that's an awful waste of cash across the build.

Any system will easily run dual screens.
Ethernet port is directly on the motherboard
Case fans depends on the case itself.

If you let us know budget, uses and monitor specifics we can help with a more tailored recommendation.

I would personally opt for the 500D SE case over just about every other option.

Hey Scott

The monitor is the 1440 144hz yes I have everything chroma so this just finishes the set up off. it is mainly for gaming I’ll be honest I understand it’s probably overkill but ive just always loved the idea of having my dream build that no matter what I want to play I can comfortably play it on max settings

budget ideally is no more than £4,000 as I want this to last a good few years as I’m 26 now so I don’t think I’ll be able to spend this on a pc again ( have to grow up eventually won’t I haha)

here is the monitor

i do play console as well a lot with friends which the monitor will also benefit for

You would have all that inside £2k with absolute ease. However, as the budget is there.... there are a LOT of luxuries that can be had in a build such as this, that I wouldn't normally recommend at this level. Here is what I would look at with a dream budget like this.

Case - The most stunning case I've seen
CPU - The 3900X is easier to cool than the 3950X, this is gaming nirvana with a good cooler.
Motherboard - STRIX because the budget allows and it will support EVERYTHING at an extremely high level
RAM - 32GB is a waste of space for gaming. You want 2 sticks as well, rather than 4.
GPU - 2070 is a 1440P monitor so the 2080 Super is way overkill (Ti would not be a good buy). The STRIX.... because budget.
Storage - All you could ever need including a dedicated superfast gaming drive.
PSU - RMx - Luxury option
Cooler - The best option available
Wireless - AX200 is by far the best option. More modern than the high priced option.

Great thanks!

can I please ask what’s the reason for not opting for the TI GPU wouldn’t it be better to have the extra power for future reference ?
that case is lovely I agree !
with the storage how come I’d need 3 separate drives I was always under the impression you have OS and games on SSD then everything else on HDD or am I wrong ?
and finally the ram I currently have 16GB which is the only reason I was looking to upgrade to 32 just its actually an upgrade if that makes sense

as I said as long as I’ve got comfort that no matter what game I load up it will load fast and run more than smooth at the maximum settings whilst still being able to do background things on the second screen, that’s my ideal dream set up. Just moved into a new home and Im working on my games room so having the machine of all machines in the corner is going to Complete me (ignore the cringe)

The Super that I've selected is massively overpowered for your uses (1440p). The Ti would just be a complete waste and a really silly purchase to be frank. The £1000 that you have saved would be far better used to put towards future upgrades (rather than spending now). For example, a £700 GPU in 6 months will likely make the current Ti look silly. It's just the way computing works. If you REALLY want to spend the money just now then I would sell your current monitor and purchase an Ultrawide 1440p monitor (stunning visually).

With regards to the storage. I've gone for serious luxury here. The primary drive (1TB) will house Windows, any programs that you use and a handful of games. The second 2TB drive will house all your other games. You can install a TON of games on this. When it comes time to reformat/wipe/upgrade the system, the drive is good to go without having to change too much.

With regards to the RAM, it's just a pointless outlay to be honest. When you bought 16GB previously you likely overshot what you actually required. 16GB is all that's required, even looking into the future. By the time 32GB becomes the normal we will be onto new motherboards and systems altogether, so spending more is money down the drain..... honestly.

The above system will demolish anything you can throw at it. Take the money you have saved and either pocket it for 2021 upgrades, or get yourself an Ultrawide monitor to really make the most out of it.

Scott I really appreciate the help thank you mate I will be sure to send the spec over once it’s ordered! so from my view for personal use it will be say windows, wow, itunes and main games on primary drive then steam and all other games on other drive then music photos etc on the HDD is that right ?ill stick with your choice of GPU as I’m really looking forward to the chroma screens dont Want to return it haha.

will this set up last me a good few years then would you say ?

Sounds like a plan, look forward to your thoughts on it.

Steam will go on the primary drive but within Steam you can set multiple game libraries. Have some on the main drive with your other stuff mentioned, then once you're around the 50% full mark, swap over to the second drive. There will be no slow-down or anything like that as they are both crazy, literally insane, fast drives. There's next to no chance of you filling it all. Your music, pictures, movies etc.... just stick them on the normal HDD as speed won't make much odds.

With regards to longevity. This base has 10 years written all over it IMO. Given your level I would estimate it will be minimum 5+ years. You will want to upgrade the GPU down the line, as discussed, but other than that it's a one-stop shop.

my question is on that mother board how many USB ports does it have ? Just cautios as with the Razer gear I have its all USB operated. I will be having connected via USB

2 mice (1 for MMO 1 for everything else) (viper ultimate and naga)
1 keyboard (razer black widow elite)
speakers (Razer nommo chroma)
mousemat (goliathus extended chroma)
headset stand (basestation chroma)
headset (Razer kraken 7.1 chroma)

some of the above do have USB through put so will this be okay ?

then phone cable etc but obviously they won’t be connected all the time like the above

and also with the on board sound card I’m guessing i don’t need to upgrade that ? I will be using the Razer speakers for sound out put when not using headset so is the on board okay?

thanks in advance

If you click the ? next to the any of the options within the configurator, it will tell you the enhanced specifications for that component.

The motherboard sound, especially on Asus boards is very good, just as good as a dedicated soundcard.

The screen has 2 USB passthroughs and 1 USB C with charging, so would make sense to utilise that as well for phone and maybe mousemat and headset stand as they wouldn't require any direct connection to the PC.

So you'd only need 5 usb's, one for the monitor and the others for the peripherals (and of course some spares likely handy.

If you need more, you can select extra USB ports in the configurator.
