adding more RAM Help

I currently have 6 gig 1600mhz of DDR3 ram in an asus p6x58de mobo in slots A1 B1 C1 . The manual says I can add another dimm to slot A2. I want to add therefore another 2 gb 1600 mhz dimm to slot A2 to make a total of 8 gigs. Question.. Does it need to be the same manufacturer of RAm and exactly the same serial numbers as I have now which is Kingston Hyper x genesis KHX1600c9D3K3/6gx ???

Whilst you do not need exactly the same manufacturer RAM, you do need the same type, I also have the P6X58D-E motherboard and my memory is triple channel, whereas most now is dual-channel and quad-channel.
So you may want to check that before getting any more RAM and if you have triple-channel also, any more you add may also need to be triple-channel, I'm not 100% positive on this, but it's definitely something I'd check before getting any additional RAM

You don't actually get triple or dual channel ram etc,it's a motherboard configuration,Triple channel mobo's run RAM best when they're in 3 equal sets, same goes for dual channel, but in 2 equal sets; 4GB works best as 2GB/2GB rather than 3GB/1GB
or at least they used to,I'm not sure it makes all that much difference now with DDR3 ram.
But as Rakk said the manufacturer doesn't matter,as long as it has the same speed,CAS latency, timings, and recommended voltage you shouldn't run into any problems.Having said that I wouldn't really recommend mixing ram, as there's no guarantee it won't cause problems.

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure how it worked.
Though if its not a RAM setting then why is my RAM named 'SAMSUNG DDR3 TRI-DDR3 1333MHz' and most of the RAM you generally see now is DUAL-DDR3 (and I'm sure I've seen QUAD-DDR3 as well in some places)

Edit: And after some Googling: it looks like dual=tri=quad, it just shows how many modules you are getting apparently, so a tri channel kit will have 3 modules in it, a dual will have 2 in it. Talk about naming conventions just to confuse people!

Yeah, pretty sure that's all it is.Also,as you say I'm pretty sure the people in the know do try to confuse people and I just don't mean about ram, anything really,I'm sure they could explain things a lot simpler,or maybe I'm just getting cynical.:)
