The system comes with the OS pre installed, all that is required is for you to fill in your Windows 7 registration etc, the drivers should also be installed.

If your pre installed installation fails, you must re-install with the Windows 7 disk provided and re-install all drivers off your motherboard CD, however I'd recommend for your GPU that you download the latest version off the manufacturers website.

The welcome booklet will have all the information you need.

I was thinking about this myself today. I'm looking at getting my new internet security software soon, and I was contemplating starting again on a clean sheet by doing a clean install. my old software, which was just a trial period, has become annoying with pop ups and other isues, so it would be beneficial I think just to reinstall and start afresh to make sure some aspects of it are not legt behind when uninstalled. I wouldn't be losing much becuase there isn't much I have done on my computer other than install a few games.

would it not be best to download all the latest drivers beforehand and put them onto a cd, or flash drive?

Yep that's exactly what I do, I setup a drivers folder on my external and I also have my essential setup programs stored on there aswell incase my Windows 7 goes "pete tong" and I need to re-install.

I also write regular backups to data DVDs aswell, it's always best to have more than one backup.

so what drivers would be the important ones to get the latest versions of first assuming I was going to reinstall my OS?

this is my config

I know stuff like keyboard and mouse etc can be done when everything is up and running, but which drivers should I be looking at getting to install imediately after installing the OS?

How do you know if/when you need to update drivers (GPU or otherwise). I've just had my new PC delivered with HD6870 GPU. Should I be looking for latest drivers?
Also, my Dell 2408WFP monitor is a couple of years old. It seems fine, but again, should I be looking for latest drivers, and what benefits would it give?

As you may have guessed, I'm clueless about drivers  (Is there a "Drivers for Dummies" book coming out soon? ;))

The two drivers I have on my external harddrive is the GPU and my wireless adapter driver which I install straight after an install which get's my internet back up and running, without it Windows 7 simply can't detect it correctly. :)
