Hi guys, theres a chance I might have have some money left over from my ultimate rig and so Im looking into buying a laptop just for gaming and a little college work - needs to be able to run the latest games smoothly would prefer to run them at max settings but thats personal preferance for me :/
I have found these ultra books offered by GIGABYTE - No competitor links sadly - the 640m version of this ultra book is rather cheep at around £800 or do I need to step up to the 650m / 730m?? - god knows how much that will cost :/

thanks for the help - it would be amazing to find a decent ultra book cheep that will meet my requirements..

None of those GPUs will run the latest games at smoothly at max settings. To give you an idea, I have a 650M in my Inferno. It will run Far Cry 3 at about 45 FPS - on medium, 30 FPS on high. It couldn't possibly handle ultra. And that's at 1366 x 768.

Speaking of which, if you are looking for a portable and cheap laptop that will give you a mobile gaming option for when you are away from your mega-rig then I can really recommend the Inferno.

ah I see im not laptop expert lol - just want something ultraportable with realistically the capabilities of an xbox right now. I was looking for a 15inch laptop / ultra book really but I will consider the inferno thanks

If you want a 15-incher then you could consider the Enigma or Optimus. You can put together a quite decent Optimus 15 spec for £800. Not fashionably thin like an ultrabook but will do the job.

kinda needed a thin laptop to take to college tho its really hard trying to find one, I dont really need it to run the latests games at max settings - just needs to run them at 30fps. I wil just keep searching.

Unfortunately there's often a trade-off between portability and power.

Another question is how important is battery life? If it is, it's worth adding that to the comparison - again, there tends to be a trade-off between "longer battery life" and power. The Inferno claims up to 4 hours (I don't know how realistic that is - anyone?).

I get a little over 3 hours from my Inferno. I don't take any particular efforts to extend that so you could probably get 3.5 hours plus if you did. That's with surfing and general use though. While gaming it will last 80 or 90 minutes. That's par for the course though. If you run a powerful laptop at its peak power then you really have to plug it into the wall.
