okay so i'm thinking of buying a gaming PC from PC specialist, only i do not have a credit card and i'm a bit worried about entering my debit card details online (i know it is not ideal to do this) but i like the look of PC specialist so has anyone used a debit card and is this site secure? (I've seen on another post that somebody ordered something on here and that they got redirected to a dodgy looking site, dunno if that's true but it has only fueled my worries lol) thanks.

Honestly dont worry about card details online. People are far too worried about it, but honestly you have nothing to worry about. PC Specialist have all the correct security when it comes to online payments. You will notice when you enter any card details you will be on a pages starting with https rather than http, this is secure http and uses encryption to pass information over. If you really wanted to you could also check the security certificates through your browser.

me and my dad ordered my PC via debit and we didn't have a problem

the site is definitely secure, it also doesn't save any of the important numbers to their servers to keep it secure

Although most people are aware of the protection you get when paying with a credit card (Section 75 of Consumer Credit Act), you also have protection when using a debit card. This is through a little know system called CHARGEBACK. You will be fine anyway, as PCS is a very reputable business and you will have no problem whichever method you use.

Here are a couple of links explaining the card protection:

Section 75 (credit card protection)

Chargeback (debit card protection)

When/if you decide to buy from PCS, don't forget to put the specs of your prospective purchase in the "check this spec" section. Explain what you will be using the pc for and someone will give it a once over and advise you if you need to change anything.

Cheers

Are you going to be o/cing? If you are, I would recommend tom's second spec, if not, I would recommend his first spec with a non k version of the 2500.

With regards to trusting PCS with your card details, you can pay via Google Checkout which means they don't see your card details. That does assume you trust Google more than PCS though.

Me and my mum literraly JUST bought a workstation pc through pcspecialist @ a whopping 2,883.00 pounds! (with a debit card)

it's safe to say we trust then, with 2 very expensive pcs (totalling over 5,100 quid now)

Worrying :O

You obviously have no idea how many card details are leaked online on a daily basis.

When was the last time PCS had an independant penetration test done? im sorry but SSL doesnt protect against stored data.

Hide all your money under your mattress and only deal with people face to face.

You can't not use your card details online nowadays, and I am not really sure where this thread came from (OP mentioned a thread about some mentioning being linked to a dodgy site...yet never actually pointed to the thread - anyone can say anything on forums :) )
