Hi, you all will be pleased to know I am about to order my laptop! Yay!! (I'll give specs later).
My main drive will be an SSD, my 2nd drive mechanical - here's the question...is 7200rpm noisier than 5400rpm? I know it's quicker, but with having an SSD that'll take the brunt of things, I think. :winkiss:

I dont think i've ever heard my Hard Drive at all, the fans are usually louder i have a 7200

Thankyou SmokeDarkKnight. I read that they were. My desktop has a 7200 & is noisy, but it is very old! I don't really hear my laptop but that's 5400rpm.

I had a netbook with a 250gb scorpio blue drive, and whilst its very quiet its also pretty slow! (although that might be a combination of a atom cpu and only 2gb of ram)

I'd definitely suggest a wd scorpio black drive, or a seagate monmentus hybrid.

There's a negligible difference is sound between the two. There's always a very quiet whoosh/hum sound from them and the 7200 might be very marginally whooshier if you're doing a long file copy or something.
