6990m Dead Again

Hello,

As the title suggests my GPU has died for the fourth time :( this time however I'm out of warranty on the part and the PCS labour.

Specs are;

Vortex II: 15.6" Glossy Full HD LED Widescreen (1920x1080)

6990m (fried)

i7 2760qm

Clevo P150

8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 (2 x 4GB)

My question is how much could I get for the old laptop selling it on ebay for parts/job lot? With a view to buying a shiny new laptop from PCS.

Replacement 6990m's are like £250 and just as likely to explode.

Is a GPU swap a viable option?

I'm not really that Interested in gaming on a laptop anymore either so seems a bit daft to buy a new GPU, however I can't get the integrated graphics to work and have read somewhere that it may not be possible.

Honestly I'd prefer to buy a nice shiny new one unless I can get this one up and running cheaply.

Thanks in advance :)

I don't think you will get much for your laptop. You could try posting it on eBay and see how it goes but from what I understood it is not working and it is quite old.

I thought that might be the case :(

Ordered my new laptop from PCS so might just chuck it on ebay and see what I get for it.

Need to fund the new laptop and a 970/980. (not decided which yet)

I'm in exactly the same situation. Dead 6990m. I use mine as a gaming machine as well as for more general purposes. I'm keeping the old one as a very expensive and bulky netbook and ordering a new one for games. At least I can still watch streams on it.

There is a thread if you search on the forum how you can replace that for a CLEVO 7970m. You do need to get hold of one and they arent cheap, but the upgrade is more than worth it as its still a decent performing card and no switchable graphics means it performs very well on the latest drivers. Something you can do; but it may be more cost effective to just get a new laptop tbh now.
