6970M Fail

I notice other manufacturers have withdrawn this card from their builds due to high failures - Are PCS going to do the same and if so what are the alternatives for orders already placed? Or is it just BS from the 'other' company ?

Hmm interesting, would be good to get a PCS perspective on this in terms of if they have found similar issues at the testing phase or have any similar plans.

EDIT: A bit more digging has unearthed this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/587434-whats-going-6970m-14.html

A Prod manager at Kobalt has said they pulled because of a >40% failure rate in testing :S having just recently placed an order with this GPU I'm very interested to get some insight with PCS's results so far with the 6970m.

Yeah, a little worrying as I've just ordered a laptop with this GPU too. I'm glad to opted for the Gold Warranty just in case. What would happen though if the GPU kept failing, would PCS be able to supply an alternative such as the GTX485 or GTX580?

It is very worrying, especially when you've just come from a 3 month nightmare with another company. I'd rather know now if PCS have issues with these cards and then I can alter my order immediately and not hold it up. Would hate for this to escalate in the next week or two and end up delaying the build by a few weeks.

Something would be sorted yes. Alternatively you could give them a ring and see what options are available now before you get it.

You could always give them a ring, the phone lines are thier offical line for enquiries so you will get a quicker response :).

PCS are not aware of any problems as I just called them up about it so this could be a good sign for anyone with one currently on order.

I directed the guy on the phone to this thread anyway so they can get a bit more info about it and possibly comment should they need to.

We are investigating this issue with the manufacturer and if there are any problems we will stop selling the cards. At present we have not had any reported failures but we will continue to monitor the situation.

Do not panic, do not worry. Even if there is an issue you will be covered under warranty and we're here to help. :)

Got my laptop yesterday with the 6970m in and 0 problems so far just pure enjoyment playing games in Ultra or V High settings!

Like any card time will tell but I'm very happy with the 6970m's performance and the temps are very good too.
