Use -
the main one LOL - watching TV,
occassional laptop connection (either wired or wireless if possible) to showcase rather than play games,
streaming (via laptop / iphone),
freeview / +,
Virgin media UHD progs. I have the ultra oomph everything package :D

Budget - £500.

Size: 40 to 45 inch or under, definitely not 50" + as would look silly in room as not wall mounting it.

Niceties but not essential: Amazon Alexa, anything FREE, minimal surround to it so its all pure picture, decent base/stand legs - nothing too flimsy in case dogs knock it.

Thanks in advance everyone.

We got this one recently and I'm absolutely blown away by it, not just the quality of the panel but the features of the OS are superb for the price, and I'm a huge fan of LG:

LG 43UP77006LB

43"
4k
HDR
£479 most places

My first reaction to this question was to recommend the TV I have had since start of the year; the Samsung Q80T (very well scored across the board, especially for gaming) but at closer to a grand, when I bought it anyway, it's outside your budget (and it's 55 inch)
But I will mention... far as I saw in my researching for that TV, a good number of the brands/ranges from 2020-2021 I had researched tend to cut back on features and quality from their sub 50 inch models that the larger ones have, so keep that in mind for lower price/tier TV's at least.

Just looked at that and it caught my fancy. My lads got an LG and really good.

I also stream Netflix and Amazon prime so these TVs nowadays have apps on them don’t they.

I like LG as they last. Most of our teles are LG. Current tele is still going 8 / 9 years old 32”. But moving it to spare room as it’s insured for extended warranty so will get replaced when it goes. Insurance cost 1p a month lol.

Thanks for comments so far.

So narrowing this down and looking at these as possibles:

Both currently £479 down from £499. The only difference I can see in those is the type of stand. Can anyone see anything else different?

Then I have this one:

This one is £499. Differences here are:

nanocell - whatever difference that will make? better or worse? Anyone recommend / not recommend nanocell?

This one also says it has Sky Store on it. Has 1 extra HDMI and 1 extra USB port than the other two above.

Then there is this one:

Was £549 now £499. Pretty much the same features, but does list Rakuten TV as well - but I assume that that is just a smart TV app that would be available on the others? Is RakutenTV a good channel of films/series or just nothing extra that isnt available on Netflix or Amazon Prime?

Any thoughts or comments on the above if anyone knows would be grateful.

Thanks

Andy

Thanks for your response, however 50 inch is way to big for the room / unit I am putting it on :D. Currently only have a 32 inch so I think the increase to 43 will be enough :D

Just looking into LG Nano :D

Well after going in and seeing a LG Nano compared to an ordinary LG, I decided to go for this model:

Truthfully though, couldnt tell much difference, but the colours were a bit more stand out on the nano.

Any tele in there would have been a huge difference in picture quality to our old 32 inch TV though - Im just surprised I didnt change sooner LOL

Looks well worth it for £20 more!

Aye - I think so - but thanks for your input though - it just reassured me that LG were still making good quality TVs.
I'm very biased towards LG for TV's, I think their TVOS is far better than Samsung. I've found with Samsung TV's that they quickly lose support for apps. We've now got 2 LG's and the older one is probably 3 years old now and still got all the same apps regularly updated. Plus has the newer apps like AppleTV and Disney+.

Thats good to know - our TVs are too old to be "Smart" LOL.

This is my first Smart TV. My boys bought one each a while ago, but other than looking at the picture quality on them (one had Samsung and one LG) I knew nothing about the "Smart" bits so to speak.

Which did you think was better out of the Samsung Vs LG for picture quality from those old TV's?

I've got an LG smart TV, don't use the apps as Amazon, You Tube etc are available by the sky box, when i got it i had problems with its wi-fi (basically its crap), ended up plugging an ethernet cable in from the back of the sky box, apparently reading the LG tv forum I'm not the only one who had similar problems

I all honesty I was in awe of both LOL.

The two TVs in question are:

Toshiba 43U5766DB
LG 43UN80006LC

Trouble is - never actually put them side by side, as eldest had moved out before youngest had got his LOL - however, if I had to choose one, then the LG I think just pips it. It seems to define the colour that little bit better.

Connected to my internet wifi immediately so no problems....yet.

Our older LG TV loses connection every few months and needs to be powered off at the wall and back on. The it reconnects automatically and stays connected again for a couple of months.

The new one though is completely solid with regards to wifi, not had any problems at all.

That's a known fault, you just disable soft power off and it clears the RAM cache on each shutdown.

My old 2018 TV did that, but the new one doesn't.
