Basically I'm out of my element, do I get AMD or intel. it's going to be both my work and gaming pc.

I'm upgrading from a i5-4460,gtx 960
but if someone could help me build within budget that would be awesome.

edit: already have a benq 144hz monitor

So budget is £2000 with a stretch to £2150/£2200 if really warranted.
Do you have a monitor already, or have you chosen one?

When you say work...are we talking general office and internet or video editing or CAD etc?

Ok.
So few things,
The monitor you have is a 1080p monitor, so the GPU is a waste of time and money.
A 1660 Ti or really push the boat out and over spec with a 2060. If you want to upgrade the monitor to 1440p (which is more the current standard, and with the 3000 series you're then looking at 4K becoming a genuine option for gaming too)

With your uses, I wouldnt go higher than a 3800XT, but you are looking at 3600 through to the 3800's, above that is intensive CPU based stuff which you arent doing. Wont hurt to have a 3900X but wont gain you anythign either (in fact, the 3800XT might even be better given your uses)

RAM should be 3200MHz or 3600MHz with those AMD CPU's, its what they work best with, 3600MHz being the preferred

Wireless, youve done exactly what i did and it turns out the AX200 is a quarter of the price and twice as good...ditch the Asus WiFi and take the £18 AX200 (which also gives you bluetooth too)

I would drop the extra case fans and the RGB, if you get the build right and in budget then see if you can throw some extras at it, but leave it till last.

Cooler, i would automatically be looking at the H100i Plat or H115i Plat with a 3800XT and above, you want a real high performance cooler.
I would worry PCS own brand and cooleermaster models just arent good enough,

Storage, up the 250GB to 500GB, it will take the OS and a couple of main games (it will fill up fast, so if budget for a 1TB or even (real luxury) 2 x M.2 then worth looking at, 250GB is going to vanish with one modern game and the OS on it)

Have you thought about monitor upgrades?
Are you also set on the case itself?

The H115i Plat is because the H100i Plat is out of stock atm, could use either though.
This build would also mean you could upgrade GPU to a 2000 series or the new 3000 series if/when you upgrade the monitor, but theres no point having a higher spec GPU while on your current monitor.
PSU also means youve got headroom for upgrades, might even consider 850w RMx.

I will upgrade the monitor at some point to a 240hz one, but I'm buying because I don't want to be 3 gens behind like I was before

if keeping to 1080p and moving from a 144hz to 240hz version.

then I very much doubt you would notice diddly squat difference.

Money would be better spent on a 1440p 144hz and then match GPU to the screen you have researched and plan to buy.

I have a 1080p 144hz monitor coupled with a GTX 1060 6GB card, I can still comfortably run for example The Outer Worlds on max settings with zero hiccups.

personally the track I am taking is getting a good 3060 (will wait to see various types released) and use the savings to get a decent 1440p monitor. I deliberately specc’d my PC (August build) to cater for this future change.

my key focus was on decent cooling, decent power supply overhead, in fact the spec that @sibun1 put up is pretty much same as mine, except I went for the glorious 500D SE case, and no GFX card and storage limited to an M.2 (have my own HDD’s).

That's not the greatest build and would benefit from a reshuffle of quite a few components...

cos the monitor is now a non issue so i wanna get a 2080 or 3080

surely that would be a 3070 if comparing against a 2080?

it’s not simply a case of substituting a 2 for a 3.

also have you priced out the monitor to match a 3080?

The case, the RAM and the storage are would all benefit from a tweaking. But the biggest bone of contention would be the choice of Intel over AMD at this point in time.
Oh rlly what wouldnchange if u dont mind

Sure, let me spec you up a luxury build. It's very similar to the one Sibun1 did for you with a few tweaks. Now bear in mind, a monitor that will actually use the graphical power of the 3080 is going to cos you around £1000... So if you're not getting one of those in the near future then we're going to need to reassess...

I wouldn't get a 2080 Super at this stage with the 3070 and 3060Ti on the horizon. I think you need to find a monitor that you want to get because that's a vital part of how we spec for you (y)
