£1800 to £2200 2k build advice

I would much appreciate advice on the following build , I will be mainly playing games, and have Flight Simulator specifically in mind.

I do want to go down the Intel route, and have existing extra SSD's to use.

In terms of the Motherboard I was looking for the Asus Prime with WIFI (but can't see it here), and I have taken a punt on the cooler - but am not too fussed about RGB - just efficiency.

I do not really plan to overclock any time soon.

It would seem my PSU is over the top - but I am thinking with the future in mind.

Further to my budget I am looking for a 27" 2k monitor (flat) - ideally around £350 (but it seems there is not much stock around).

Nope - I was going to and then life problems got in the way. I am hoping the same doesn't happen this year (last famous words).
Ah yeah, it's definitely been on of those years last year!

AMD are just about to release their new 7000 series X3D chips which replace the 5800x3D which is the current winner by a country mile for MSFS and gaming in general.

Were expecting to hear more within the next 2 weeks or so, would be worth holding on if you can. You're budget would allow a beefy setup.

That's noted - and I have that at the back of my mind.

In case I do want to irrational and go ahead sooner - any thoughts on the compatability of this build?

Thanks

I would up the primary SSD to the 980 which is a Gen 4 SSD so substantially faster.

I would then add a 1TB secondary 980 SSD just for games which will benefit from DirectStorage as it's implemented in the future.

You want the AX200 wifi card which supports modern standards up to wifi 6, whereas the one you have currently is around 14 years old and doesn't support even dual band, let alone decent speeds.

I would up the warranty to silver for £5er

Just to make you aware of why the X3D chips are being recommended for your uses, this is the current 5800X3D in MSFS compared to 13th Gen Intel:

It's not that it's a slight difference, it's leaps ahead, and that's on the current one, the new ones are set to be quite an improvement.

Thanks for the reply, and it is noted. I have in mind DLSS3 for the 4000 card which should make a real difference. I think I will stay Nvidia.

I will certainly look at the SSD, I am planning on using my old 2 x 1TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD's. But can see I should improve the NVME to maybe 1TB. Also with DirectStorage in mind as you have mentioned.

I am going to go for the WIFI version of the Mobo - but couldn't see it in the list.

Do you think I should up the PSU to 1000w with the future in mind ?

And just a final thought on any other leads/cables I might need.

Thanks

You know DLSS is independent of the CPU, so will be the same if you have intel or AMD CPU?

Looks like I am good to go then - exciting times.

Have already picked up a monitor at an ok price (LG 27GP850), monitor stock is hard to find at the moment.

So my LG 27GP850 monitor arrived today - which I am ‘trying out’ before I order my 4070TI build. I have gone from a 24” 1080p (used with a 1660 super). Trying to get my head around if I will send it back and go bigger (I read 27” is the sweet spot for 1440p but am now too sure myself). Also since ordering said monitor and having seen various 4070 reviews I am also thinking if I should change it to 4K if I do re order. I know the 4070 is often referred to a 1440p card but I can see lots of reasonable fps results for 4K. I will mainly be playing RTS / flight simulator (which I know also benefits from DLSS3 too). I would like to ply at hood settings - not bothered about Ray tracing.

Thoughts would be appreciated.

Yep, 27" is the optimal for 1440p.

There are some amazing deals on 4k 144Hz monitors at the moment check out this post for some current deals:

For 4k, you're looking at 32" minimum I would say for optimal viewing, I have a 28" and it's just a bit too small for text.

Thanks for this. Would you stay with 1440p with an RTX4070Ti ? or move to 4k ?

You'd be looking around 85 average FPS

1440p isn't suitable though either, you'd be looking at ultrawide as a minimum

I'd go ultrawide
