Thank you for all your help and advice Scott. I've gone for the spec above except the 750w RMx is now 850w. For some reason the 750w disappeared off the drop down menu. It comes to £1506. I plumped for the 1660 super because the Radeon 6600 was nearly £100 more. The gpu benchmarks show the 6600...
I love what you've suggested re the case and motherboard. I don't want to get hung up on the graphics card. I have no allegiance to nVidia or Radeon so you can chop and change how you like. I have changed the 3050 (re your comments) to the nVidia 1660 super. My son is using this on his laptop...
Thank you for your suggestions. I am swaying towards the Ryzen cpu possibly the 7700x. My budget is £1500 and I'm pretty firm on that unfortunately. I am also somewhat restricted by the width of the case. My current Coolermaster is 190mm and most of the cases are way above that. Sorry I never...
OK - my monitors are an Iiyama Prolite E2473 and a Dell (don't know the model number). They are both 1080p and 24".
Not sure I will need x3d because gaming is down the road a bit. I have noticed that in regards to the rendering speed of videos the cpu is massively important. That's one reason I...
Thank you Scott. I shall do as you suggested. I went for DDR5 for the usual 'futureproofing'. My laptop is Ryzen so I am already sold on those. I use Passmark Software to measure CPU benchmarks and the Intel was better than Ryzen 5800X for the money.

My PCS desktop is starting to chug and refused to start this morning although eventually after several on/off operations at the mains, it fired up again. I've taken this as a warning. This has given me a chance to do an up to date backup of critical stuff and copy over to my laptop. The desktop...
Hi guys,
The missus wants a new laptop and the only MUST have is a backlit keyboard, either 15.6 or 17, she doesn't mind. What models come with a backlit keyboard in these sizes? All the other spec is flexible.
Hi again chaps,
Been a while. I was here in October 2012 asking about a PC spec which I duly ordered and it has been superb since day one, and long may it continue to be so. Still whisper quiet and fast!
Now my old laptop is due for renewal and a grateful relative is looking towards giving it...

I paid £14.36 and fitted it in ten minutes. The beauty of this for me was the fact that it was a Cooler Master product and I have a Cooler Master case. To say it was a perfect fit...
Hi again everyone,
My puter is still in the build stage and is being held up by the non-availability of the GTX 650 ti graphics card I ordered. It will apparently be in on Monday.
However, having too much time on my hands, and in keeping with the usual practice of using the Configurator to...
I've come in late on this but would like to add - If your tv has a usb and you can record to it, that is your PVR. You can then transfer what you record to a hard drive and copy it back when you want to watch it on your tv.
My tv doesn't have a usb but my PC has a Hauppage tv usb dongle (£32...
After reading around for a couple of days and discovering that my requirement seems to be for a rapid cpu and plenty of ram, I have put together the following without being certain of anything. I really need your comments one way or the other.
Usage - for Lightroom, Premiere and Photoshop...
