Just got a fast new gaming PC and was surprised how much much CPU (100%) was being used simply zipping up a smallish file (555mb)

When my new pc arrived, it wasn't set up as I thought it would be. Is this normal?
I had stated google chrome as the browser which it wasn't!
And I had to activate my copy of windows. I thought that was done by them, but maybe that one is done by the end user?

My last PC machine I got from these was in 2007 and still going, but now I need a laptop to cope with editing family videos at 1080p and maybe higher, plus some music production using pro tools. None of them in a professional but semi professional capacity.
