PCSPECIALIST Gigabyte B450 System Won't Boot

After trying a few more suggested fixes by PCS (reseating power cables), somewhat to my surprise, their last chance suggestion of clearing the CMOS (as suggested above, by shorting the clear CMOS jumper pins) seems to have cracked it. I have no idea why this worked, or indeed how the fault...

PCSPECIALIST Gigabyte B450 System Won't Boot

I eventually heard back from PCS. They suggested trying in turn to disconnect the HDD, SDD and M2 drive. Sadly this had no impact. I haven't tried the CMOS reset, I have no faith that it would work and to be honest I can't see how to remove the battery without breaking something.

PCSPECIALIST Gigabyte B450 System Won't Boot

One final question. There is a lot of mention in various internet advice on clearing the CMOS by removing and re-seating the CMOS battery. I assume there is no point in looking at this on the basis that the machine never gets to loading the BIOS?

PCSPECIALIST Gigabyte B450 System Won't Boot

Yes, without the RAM installed the power on stops on the RAM LED (though there is a bit of flipping back an forward between that and the CPU LED). I have already logged a tech support call with PCS and will refer them to this thread. Many thanks for all the help, really appreciate it.

Tried that with both the supplied GPU and the 10 year old one, still no change in behaviour.

Tried re-seating the RAM, sadly no joy.

PCSPECIALIST Gigabyte B450 System Won't Boot

The only graphics card I had to hand was a 10 year old GT520, I have tried that and there is no change in behaviour.

Ahhh! That would explain why that didn't work!

PCSPECIALIST Gigabyte B450 System Won't Boot

I can see where you are coming from. Sadly, I have tried as suggested, and also tried removing the card completely to see if it would revert to the in built graphics, but in both cases the same light sequence is seen, and there is no beep. I am getting quite worried now that this could be a...

PCSPECIALIST Gigabyte B450 System Won't Boot

Many thanks for coming back to me on this. No there are no beeps. Having watched what happens, the CPU LED lights up red then goes out, the DRAM LED immediately then lights red and the goes out, followed immediately again by the VGA LED lighting red. This stays illuminated and the BOOT LED...

PCSPECIALIST Gigabyte B450 System Won't Boot

Hi, My PC Specialist system (spec below) has been working fine since I first set it up two years ago, with no modifications to the configuration, until this morning. It worked fine last night, but today when I went to switch it on, while the power light came on and I could hear fans starting...

PCSPECIALIST Video and photo editing and office productivity PC

Thanks, that all makes sense. If I was happy to go up a bit in budget, would I say much improvement by going to the Ryzen 7 3700X? I note you have suggested a Gigabit mobo rather than Asus, they don't seem to have much of a price difference, but not sure what the real differences are?

PCSPECIALIST Video and photo editing and office productivity PC

Hi, Many thanks for the thoughts, all very helpful. I must confess that I have always stuck to Intel CPUs, not sure why, possibly brand loyalty! Having done a bit more reading, it does seem you get quite a bit more bang for your buck with AMD. It had never occurred to me look at a second SSD...

PCSPECIALIST Video and photo editing and office productivity PC

Hi, After too many years and with the end of Windows 7, I am looking to update my 8 year old PC. My main uses for the machine are video (HD but maybe one day 4k) and photo editing for personal purposes (i.e. using Premier Elements Pinnacle Studio and Photoshop Elements), and also use it for...

    PCSPECIALIST Sound Card Problems

Hi, I have recently taken delivery of my new desktop system and while I am generally happy with the performance, I am quite disappointed with the sound card. I specified a SB X-Fi Extreme Audio as I was looking for something a little better than the on board Realtek chip. The actual sound...
