Not sure if you have tried, but what I would do is:
Boot from a Manjaro KDE live CD, see if the audio works.
Install "SOF Firmware", see if that works (I think it's sudo apt install firmware-sof-signed on Ubuntu).
Package details here...
Do you know if "Runtime D3" (RTD3) is working on this model? Also, do you know if it's possible to run an external monitor with the Nvidia GPU powered down?
I had similar issues on my Defiance II a while back. The workaround for me was to open the lid (which would start the laptop again, but with a black screen), then pressed ALT + CTRL + F2, then ALT + CTRL + F1. That would bring everything back to life. I now have a laptop with a Ryzen 7 4800H...
As mentioned above, just about any modern GPU will do the trick, although it will depend on your monitors (i.e. resolution and refresh rates). I have an AMD Radeon 5500 running three monitors: 2 x 2560x1440 and 1 x 1920x1080 (all running at 60Hz). I have been very satisfied with this card, does...
I'm very curious about this laptop and it's "desktop" CPU. I have so many questions :)
What are the specs of your Destian?
What distro did you install?
Is the fan noisy?
Are you able to completely power down the Nvidia GPU?
Are the video output ports hardwired to the Nvidia GPU?
Can you set the...
I don't have the Elimina, but am thinking about purchasing one to use as a Linux workstation.
In regards to your question - what exactly are you trying to do? Just get the Nvidia drivers installed and working?
Here's a few things to consider/try:
What's the GPU setting in your BIOS? Most...
I recently cancelled an order for a Recoil 15.6 inch after finding info about a design flaw with the mechanical keyboard that results in missed key-strokes (i.e. you have to press each key either directly in the middle, or at the bottom. Pressing a key near the top will make the "click" sound...
Hi @Vergaro98 - I have ordered the same machine (a Recoil with the 5900HX and 3070). I have a couple of questions:
Does it ever miss keystrokes? I read in another review that it sometimes misses keystrokes unless the key is pressed right down. I understand that this could just be due to...
I believe there is an option it the BIOS to completely power off the Nvidia GPU so it runs off the Vega 8 iGPU. Can you confirm this? I believe it's under Advanced > Display Settings (something like that).
Glad I stumbled across this post. I'm in the same predicament at the moment - trying to decide between the 5900HX and the 11800H. I'm leaning heavily towards the 5900HX right now.
Would the AMD have better battery life if running in "iGPU" mode ("office mode")? Do the fans also run quieter on...
