Came back from Ireland last week, and on the way back home, something got caught around my feet. While sorting that out, the bag which contained my Vortex IV fell full weight to the ground. At the time was too tired to care. This evening though, I opened the bag, found a missing bit, a dvd drive...
I get that the one next to the touchpad seems to be the mic, but what are the holes on either side of the web cam? One on the right side seems to have a 'shiny' metallic and deeper bottom whereas the the left side appears to be a bit shallower. Hard to tell though as there is nothing (And I...

No guarantees on this one, but it may help a scratch here and there.
From the web site "TLP brings you the benefits of advanced power management for Linux without the need to understand every technical...
Not sure if this falls into the website/suggestion area, but seems more of a general topic.
This may go against the idea of not having extra applications installed, but a few years ago, a couple spare desktops were given to the BOINC (SETI) project. While our little band of resources could...
OK..
I'm not the kindest person when it comes to experiences but I don't go out of my way to be unkind.
The keyboard placement, maybe is just my hands but the keys are too far apart or maybe the keys themselves are too small and the visual mean I don't see them. The result is that I miss...
Created this a few years ago when I had a spare webcam kicking about (and may or may not work with new distros or hardware, but I don't see why there would be a problem.). If you see errors or improvements, by all means mention it.. This originated in 2010 so who knows. Maybe I'll even update...
I see that there are one or two companies using Clevo hardware but as PCS does, they have their own branding etc. The creation of a PCS version of a driver set may (not saying will) improve the user experience.
A small portion of the DEB file from this other company is:
dpkg -c...
Ubuntu may not have the appeal it once did, but these may help those either using something similar or a Ubuntu derivative.
The Vortex 4 which was ordered was pretty standard kit with the exception of SSD, a bit more memory and i7-4700 proc. Oh and the Killler 1202 network.
Initially tried an...
Ubuntu sort of detects the printer (HP Officejet) but scanning is not enabled.
The default 12.04 HPlib (3.12something) file isn't new enough, so here's one that might work if you have a HP printer.
The interface is pretty lame, but at least it (3.14) works...
Could be an interesting swing at one of the latest claims of Linux's 'inability' to play games.

This will be my (yes, 'my' because I'm so awesome) kinda sorta diary of getting an order via PCS. I've have worked building PC's before and in phone support, so I know what time-stressed environment they are. There's constant stress about getting orders out and right.
I'll try to base this...
One of the first things I do when building a PC is make sure everything is up to date. Unfortunately, this is not so easy as it should be. The machines aren't Windows based, and almost all the updates seem to be .exe based.
So the question is: While machines are being built up/tested by PCS, is...

As noted in the 'hello' post, my laptop is coming to the dying days. I don't need anything earth-shattering powerful, but what the laptop will be used for, does tend to eat up a fair amount of RAM.
If the following sounds like slagging...
Don't remember when or where I became aware of PCS. Maybe it was just searching for PC suppliers in the UK. I don't remember.. Anyway, since that point, my well used (some might say abused) ThinkPad T61 is pretty much done. For it's time, a T7500 Dual-core was not a slouch, and even know is not...
