Yep, I've had this issue on the Defiance V too, the recognition is very ropey compared to my Huawei mobile that works first time every time.
Think I'm gonna try and use my big toe instead :p
So, unfortunately I had to return my £1600 Defiance laptop after a couple of weeks after noticing a stuck pixel near the centre of the screen (thank goodness I took out the dead pixel insurance!)
It was collected weds + arrived at PCS thurs (according to DPD tracking) but as yet no updates...
