I actually found an alternative way around it, and that was to introduce a manual fan curve. Looks to me like the fan speed was sitting at about 50% all the way up to 80degrees, and then at 85 it ramps directly up to 100% for a few seconds then goes back to 50% again. Rinse & repeat. Not sure...
@SpyderTracks They are set to automatically install (and were updated quite recently), but I also tend to run manual scans on them as well to be sure. I did apply driver updates yesterday morning but I don't think they were GPU related.
It's more like 30°C when idle, this is literally a few minutes into starting a game (elder scrolls online).
Honestly even though it does seem a bit hot, the fan doesn't kick in consistently with the temp being at 85; it just has random intervals where it does it (kind of assumed it would always...
That sucks, sorry to hear that! PCS were actually pretty awesome with my return, they sent me the new GPU and a guide on how to fit it, and it got way better. Still loud but clearly just coil whine which seems to be common in GPU's these days. Covid has made everything a bit difficult to...
I'd definitely prefer 5 minutes talking through it rather than the hassle sending it back to be done (as I'm sure it still crazy busy). Glad to hear it's not as difficult as I built it up to be 😂
Yeah sorry definitely wasnt accusing PCS of anything here as the whole process has been awesome.
Was just wondering if the shortages could have caused Nvidia to cut corners but I know it's very unlikely!
I'm just unlucky lol just wanted to know if this was expected or not, and seems not!
Yeah I had noticed that actually - I do wonder if the manufacturers are actually refurbing broken graphics cards and pretending they are new, as clearly not everyone is having the same problems with the same cards. Annoying, but at least it does work until PCS get back to me with where we go...
I thought it sounded a bit off! Oddly, it was practically silent for the first day or so then suddenly started making this awful noise lol.

Not sure if anyone here would be able to help me with identifying if this issue is coil whine or something worse?
My understanding was that coil whine is quite high pitched - this seems to me more like...well I am not sure, sounds like a rattle or metal grinding.
This only really kicks in when...
