It sounds like you just got unlucky with your drive. Judging by your specs you won't have had it that long and you'd expect the drive to last longer than you've had it, but by the law of averages there will be a few duds here and there. Hopefully your issue is now fixed!
If you follow the above advice and are still getting the same problem it might be worth trying to run a full scan on the HDD you're installing windows on to ensure there aren't any bad sectors. At this point I'd think HDD failure is unlikely (as if the HDD was failing I don't think windows...
Funnily enough I had both of your first two issues (alarm beeping followed by shutdown & flickering screen) on my UltraNote II. It got RMA'd twice - once for the beeping and shutdown (which tbf they acknowledged as a known motherboard issue) and about a week after I got the laptop back it...
Yeah, protected cloud storage is a totally viable backup option as well. Most people tend to go for the free or cheap cloud storage options though, which often don't tend to come with the security needed to ensure viruses are kept out.
Yes, exactly. You can never really trust a device after it's been water damaged. If you're lucky it'll continue to work as normal until you stop using it, but often it'll suddenly start malfunctioning or just totally die days, weeks, or even months later. The most you can do is clean the damaged...
At the end of the day as long as you're backing up your important files safely and remotely then getting a ransomeware virus would be more of an irritation than a total disaster (as a personal user, obviously a bit different if you're a business but the same principle applies). As a personal...
Less than two hours is definitely not right imo. The battery life isn't great but it isn't that bad either. Now granted considering the relatively powerful components in the machine you wouldn't be expecting 5-6 hours, but 2-3 hours is perfectly reasonable to expect. I'd definitely have returned...
I get about 2 hours battery life running normal tasks, maybe 3 hours on very light use. Adjusting power settings may increase it a little but the battery life on the Proteus is not great. Right click on the trackpad is hit and miss, I think it's a pretty poor design choice in all honesty. The...
From my experiences undervolting the Proteus VI I couldn't go above -0.140 without the laptop becoming unstable. At -0.150 it ran for a few hours before randomly crashing whilst gaming. I agree on the touchpad, I don't really like it either, but I use a wireless mouse anyway so it doesn't really...
I've had a lot of people tell me "I don't need an external hard drive to back up onto, all of my stuff gets backed up onto the cloud anyway!"
Yeah, great, unless the ransomware spreads to the cloud as well - as it often does - then that backup solution becomes irrelevent. Over the years I've...
The golden rule for me is back up, back up, back up. I've got 3 seperate external HDD's with my important stuff backed up onto them. Whilst some victims of ransomware will be helped by websites like that, criminals are always finding new ways to thwart the authorities. My dad's laptop somehow...
Yeah I agree you shouldn't have to do that, so returning the laptop was probably for the best. It would have just been interesting to see how far the temps dropped with an undervolt. Hopefully you can find a laptop that works out better for you.
Whilst the laptop should be able to handle those temperatures without any issue, I still wouldn't be happy if it was going above 90 regularly. Have you tried undervolting to see if that helps lower the temps?
