To answer a question earlier, RMA = Returned Materials Authorisation, which is a rather ridiculous turn across the trade meaning to return faulty or otherwise unwanted goods
I will be running multiple VMs simultaneously on occasion hence the high RAM. Open to any feedback:

So I have crafted my own little flavour of Linux - started off with LFS, but now, for good practical reasons, no fluff - none of the nonsense you don't want/need - can play games well if you use Stadia (or steam even, though results vary)
But this is a working OS - and this little laptop...
So amazingly, 6 months have passed, and now is the time to reflect. Would a threadripper have been better? Very possibly. Spyder and Scott, very graciously said most likely. And this still maybe be true. However, Intel troubles notwithstanding, this Behemoth still runs all 4 monitors better...
You must be really tired of the questions, but just 2 more, and forgiveme if they sound daft:
1) Did you fully uninstall the driver before trying a reinstall?
2) Did you get the option of installing either JUST the driver or the driver plus Application software?
This really looks like drivers now.... Check out this page:
https://www.tendacn.com/uk/product/download/W322E.html
There is a windows driver and also an install guide.... If this doesn't work then I have one last arrow in my quiver - but this would be first prize
Weird - couldn't edit that - meant to say, see if you can toggle the Online signup button off and then try turning on wifi...
Rogwal, Elain was saying the wifi "switch" was not toggling...
Hi Elaine
A few questions:
1) Are you able to share the model of Tenda card? Is it perhaps W322E?
2) By not working, does this mean you see NO wifi netwrks in the list?
What is the machine spec? Curious to see the spec you chose - I did a similar thing, I run my own customised linux version (based on Arch, if you are curious) and it runs flawlessly too - even playing Red Dead redemption 2 on Google Stadia superbly!
